pre-Summer evening

Yesterday, Maelie decided to practice her writing. Chalk in hand, she requested that I spell out all the names of our neighbors and proceeded to writing them right in front of their doorstep. At that point all I was thinking is that i hoped i had all their names right!

Today we stopped by the water games at the park. At first Maelie was the only kid there... but within a few minutes, the watergames were packed with kids of all ages! Brave enough to run through the ice water. Maelie was pretty brave!

On our way back home, Maelie stopped by a patch of "fluffy dandelions" as she calls them. Are we supposed to make a wish as we blow these things?

Summer on a part-time basis

Summer came by for a couple of days last week. Friday my friend Jacinthe told me they had been in their pool on Thursday. For a moment there, I thought "what? the pool?" Then I realized, it WAS 31 degrees... so perhaps it WAS warm enough. So Frdiay at the end of the day, I suggested to Maelie that we go in the pool. (pic was taken Saturday because Friday I was IN the pool) Maelie was so excited to go in, she was soaked in 2 seconds flat. I on the other hand was thinking of taking my good old time. But as i climbed the ladder, and attempted to climb down, I kinda did a side flip and ended up soaked in record time! Turns out it was not so bad.

Saturday, it was a gorgeous day. Very unfortunate that I didn't bring my camera along though because we went to Lac Beauchamp (beach). We caught tadpoles and frogs and even a little crablike thing. Maelie thought we should take the tadpoles home and have them for supper. Um... no.

Afterwards, we were heading home and I decided to check out the water games. They were opening as we drove by! We stopped and Maelie ran around a bit. You gotta LOVE the water games. I will post a picture next weekend. It was an awesome day!

Sunday, summer took a break. It was cold and rainy. That was ok because we had an indoor birthday party to attend at an indoor playground. It was fun! Lots of energy spent there, that's for sure! The party place just happened to be across the street from a movie theatre. On our way out, Maelie reminded me that the weather sucked and that I had told her when it rained we would go see Shrek 3. We ended up going to see it. It was good, not quite as good as the #1 or #2 but it had its cute moments. This is the first time Maelie lasted through a whole movie at the theatre! Last time we tried was over a year and a half ago to see Madagascar. We had lasted 20 minutes.

Another Monday is just ending.. I don't know where the time goes really. June, July and August are supposed to be quieter times at work, and so I can feel a few extra days off coming up! I think it will be a wonderful summer. Let's hope it stays for more than a day or two a week!

Busy Sunday

Our day started off with a nice breakfast served by Maelie. She set up her Tupperware tea set last night and so this morning we had a miniature breakfast. One sip per cup! One bite per plate! but Maelie was really proud of herself. We enjoyed breakfast together and then grand maman and Gilles went back home.

We went to Myriam's birthday party this afternoon. She turned 4. We were hoping for nice warm weather like yesterday but it is a fall day today. That didn't stop JAcinthe from organizing a water balloon game. The kids had fun! Mus and water all over the place.

Jacinthe is truly an awesome cake maker. Her kids like ice cream cake more than regular cake, so here is the "Pool" she made for Myriam. There was pink, white and brown ice cream inside, and blue ice cream on the top. She put a few mermaids in there, pool noodles and ducks. Myriam loved it! and so did all the other kids. Who doesn't like ice cream ?

Maelie gave Myriam a set of Polly Pockets. She was ecstatic to have her very own. She sees her older sister with Polly Pockets and always wanted some for herself. Maelie loves when her friends like the gifts she chooses.

So we came home, had supper and now we are just relaxing. It's been quite the busy weekend! Late nights, early mornings and lots in the middle! Tomorrow it's supposed to be back to sun. Let's hope so! We aren't working and I would love to spend most of the day outside. If it isn't so nice, we may venture out and see Shrek 3. We'll see...!

Hello Kitty! Goodbye Kitty!

Yesterday, Grand-maman came to visit with Gilles and they brought a baby kitty... This kitty was to go to a work friend's house. So the kitty arrived after a long car ride, we took her out for a few minutes. Maelie cuddled her and wished we could just keep her a little longer. Maelie is so fond of cats it's crazy! She has her own little cat collection going on here. This cat is so adorable as you can see by the picture. SHe is very lively and playful... when we dropped her off at CHristines house, she immediately came out of her carrier, ate and then played in the litter box. It was adorable. She made a few kids happy last night!

SO far my moms cat Bidute has had many babies. Every time she is done raising them, my mom gives them away to whoever wants one. This is why I made this for her. It's 7 plush little cats in a basket with a little blankie. I thought it was a nice little gift :) and handmade too! I had started working on it before Christmas, and just managed to finish it last week.

This morning, my mom , Gilles and Maelie and I were out of the door before 8. We were on a garage sale mission. We went around all morning finding treasure after treasure. Before we knew it, our trunk was full. Mainly Gilles & my moms stuff. So we headed home to eat and then Maelie was off to a birthday party for her daycare friend Yasmeen who turned 5. This was the first birthday party she attended without me. I told her that now that she is 5, I don't need to stay at parties anymore. It turned out that most kids who confirmed their presence didnt eve show up. How sad. Maelie and Yasmeen had a blast though. I think that she had the best day ever! Her family was also there, but she chose to play with Maelie all day. It was adorable. By the time I went to pick Maelie up, she didn't want to come home! She wanted to stay some more. They weren't done eating and playing and opening gifts. So we just left Maelie there and went out for supper. She is exhausted right now! She has been up since 6 AM surviving on very little sleep.

Tomorrow we have another birthday party to attend and Monday is a day off. Wonderful!

All we need is HEAT

The pool is ready but very cold... all we need is a bit of heat and we'll be ready to hop in!! I told Maelie we may be able to go in by my birthday.... which may be a tad hopeful... since its June 10th! but with this global warming, we may be in luck.

Happy Mother's Day!

This is the reason I am a mom. This beautiful little bundle of life.
I am very blessed because I don't really need "Mother's Day" to know how loved I am. Maelie is very caring and loving every single day of her life. She and I were truly made for each other. She has taught me a lot in my short life as a mom. She has taught me unconditional love! No matter how good or bad a day I am having, no matter how many mistakes I make, she will still love me and I will still love her. It's a kind of love that it hard to explain! I never had realized how much my own mom loved me, before having a child of my own. I mean, I wasn't always that pleasant growing up (believe it or not LOL)! Yet my mom always loved me, took care of me and forgave me for any mistakes I made. I understand my mom now. I admire her, love her and and very thankful to her for everything she has ever done in her life, especially bringing my sister and I to this world.

Happy Mother's Day to all Moms and Grandmas and even great grandmas! Which Maelie is blessed to have 2 of!

new project

this year, for Mother's day, i decided that I wanted a special chocolate sucker holder. Ok, so this may not be the most common choice for most normal moms. But knowing that i like to make cutesy stuff, i really wanted this holder. I filled it up today with handmade smiley faces.

This is what it looked like. I used some little kind of icing tube to make the smiles and eyes. I find them adorable! All i need to add now is a little sign on the top. There's a little slit with just enough space to slide a cardboard in with a message written on it. The model on the box has one written "smile" on it. It's pretty cute. I'll see it i can make that on mine.

Yesterday driving in the car I heard the lottery winnings were to be 12 million dollars. i never really think of winning the lottery, i never even buy tickets. but right then, i thought to myself, "wow, if i won that amount, i would train someone to do my job and then quit and just make crafts and chocolates." I truly enjoy making them. I find that they usually turn out adorable, and even if they don't, people are happy to eat the ruined ones!

fighting

This afternoon, Maelie looked outside the window at our birdhouse at the back of the yard.

"Mom, what are the 2 birds doing?"
"oh... the birds are mating"
"mating? what's that"
"they're making babies"
"um... actually i like to think they're fighting, mom"

'twas the day before mother's day

...and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a chinchilla.

ok, ok so i am not poetic. Yesterday Maelie, Bill and I went out to Mexicali Rosa's for my Mother's Day supper. We like being original and doing it ahead of everyone. That way when Sunday comes and everyone is standing in line in an overcrowded restaurant, we did our thing.

Note to self for future reference: Do not take Bill out to a restaurant where they serve refired beans with your meal on a Friday. This means all weekend of torture. Had we gone on Sunday, his work friends would have paid for it.

Friday we visited Maelie's school. We had planned to meet the teacher and spend a bit of time in her class. Well, when we got there, the teacher was absent, she was home sick until next week! The teacher replacing her was kind enough to have us visit. Maelie was shy at first but she warmed up pretty quick. The kids were very kind and wanted to play with her. She got to see butterflies and chicks! Two projects they do in kindergarten. It was really exciting... as much for me as for Maelie. It means she will be going to school soon! she will be one of those small , sweet, innocent kids just hungry to learn!

Maelie made me a card and inside, it was written, with her adorable 5 year old handwriting "Surprise you can sleep in for 2 days!) meaning Saturday and Sunday. So what am I doing up at 6 AM on Saturday if I have the permission to sleep in? Well, my body doesn't always cooperate! Technically i DID sleep in since I usually get up at 5:30.

As expected, the roofers are across the street already this morning, looking half asleep tearing down our neighbors roof. I guess I don't mind their early wordays as I am up anyway so it gives me something to look at!

updates on our weekend coming soon!

Sunny Tuesday

What a BEAUTIFUL warm day today. No more heat running during the night. This means it is official... summer is starting! Maelie spends a lot of time outdoors at her daycare which is great. So once she got home today she was rather hot. So what to do? take the hose out! Maelie insists she washed my car 5 times today. no wait. 10 times. Not using any soap which means we can wash it again tomorrow!

I forgot to post a picture of our new tenants. They moved in with us a a week and a half ago. They are the Pelouza's. Mama Pelouza, Daddy Pelouza, and brother and sister Pelouza, oh and pet rabbit Pelouza. All designed by Maelie.

The Pelouza's have already had a haircut a few days ago! Their hair growns really fast. Maelie had a few hair clips but then decided they needed a short hair do. It's amazing how fast grass grows inside the house when they birds are not there to eat up all the grass seeds. It's fun to bring nature in the house and in my mind it is very educational. I recommend the Pelouza Family to anyone with a curious little 5 year old.

Happy Tuesday!

Saturday morning

Well... I am sure a lot of neighbors are very happy with what is going on. Our neighbors across the street were getting their roof done this Saturday. Well surprise surprise... the roofers start at 7 AM. on Saturday morning. when most people are sleeping. Unless you are in our household. Then you are awake by then. We found out that 3 houses will be getting their roof done for three Saturdays in a row. We are also supposed to get ours done this summer. I can tell we will have many happy neighbors.

Maelie was sitting watching the action Saturday morning.

Then she decided it would be nice to pose for the camera a bit.

So this is how our weekend started. I cleaned the kitchen with a Hertel product. Turns out Bill doesn't really like the smell of that product. Not a good thing as I bought a HUGE jug of it at Costco. He got up and within 2 minutes he was complaining that it smelled horrible and he had a headache. Within 15 minutes he was dressed and out of the house. I am offering FREE hertel to anyone who wants it!

Maelie and I went yard saling to find a few treasures and great deals. There was a neighborhood sale close by and so we walked around for quite a while.

Sunday we had a birthday party to attend. It was PACKED with kids. We went out to Olive for supper. Maelie was SO exhausted from spending the day outside in the sun playing that she was talking with a slur. You would think she was drunk!

There are many many sunny days in the forecast... it's wonderful! We have been meeting more and more people in our neighborhood. I love springtime! It's also time for the tulip festival in the National Capital. I appreciate beautiful yards. Of course they aren't mine, but I love looking at other peoples hard work.
