Sneak peak

Ok ok ok... tomorrow is OCTOBER. yes, we are ready for Halloween. A bit early ? Perhaps... but when a special day is only ONE day, we rather turn it into a whole season! Three cheers for Halloween! We also got a lot of double takes when people drove by our front lawn today.

Here is also a sneak peak of the chocolates I will be working on for the next month:

Do you think this one has been eating too much Halloween candy? This is Chi Chi Boy. He has completely changed since we got him. He used to be shy and scared and hide every chance he got. He would barely come out of his cage. Now we need to trick him with treats to get him back in his cage. He loves being out. He gets along well with Chinchin, but he doesn't really like our newest addition, Charlie. Mayhem dislikes him with a passion. They came from the same household, but not the same cage. Chi chi girl also doesn't like him. (yes if you add all that up, you come up to 5. 5 chinchillas in this house. They rented out our basement.)

Have a great week!

bug party

Yesterday we crossed the street and attended a 7 yr old bug birthday party. Koryne turned 7 and she invited a bunch of friends, supplied us with everything from bug wings, make up and ladybug tattoos! The kids played games, decorated butterfly cakes, opened presents and all in all just had a GREAT time. How many times have I mentioned that I love kids birthday parties? So much pride for the birthday kid, and so much joy through the whole party!

Everyone ends up pooped at the end of the day (including the parents) but it's ALL worth it for your kids!

One of the funnies that happened was at the gift opening part. Koryne opened one of the presents and it was a Toysrus gift card. When the kids saw that, one little girl looked really upset. She blurted out loud that this was awful! She got her that same gift! I guess at 7 you don't really understand that in the case of gift certificates, the more for the same place the better! LOL

This is your brain on school

Poor Maelie is completely exhausted by the end of the day! School really sucks out all of her energy, her patience, her politeness and her decorum. I get whatever is left when she gets home! :)

On another note, aren't you all so happy that fall is here? It's truly the most beautiful season.

at the doctor's office

As Maelie had fever for many days straight, we went to the doctor. Bill went at 7 am and sat there to wait for our turn (it takes hours in the walk-in clinic... no one who doesn't HAVE to wait there does.)
So when we got in, they sent us to the room. Bill stayed behind in the waiting room. We could see him from where we were waiting.
Maelie turned and looked at him as he was chatting with the person beside him.
She started chanting "oooooh, mommy, daddy has a girlfriend!!"
:)

try it in all languages

Yesterday, the phone rang and I was busy so I asked Maelie if she could please get it. She picked up the cordless but couldn't turn it on. It had rang 4 times so I told her to just grab the other one. By that time, the person at the other end had hung up.

Maelie answered:
"Hello?"
"Hello?"
"heeeeello?"
"Allo?"
"Allo?"
"Alllloooo?"
then in an impatient voice she said
"Hola?"

I burst out laughing. She figured that if they didn't respond to her when speaking english or french, she would try spanish!

Apple of my eye

This was our first apple picking weekend this season. We headed off to the Laurentides to meet up with our friends Kath, Francis & Sandrine. We spent our first night at the Best Western, but they decided they wouldnt allow 5 of us in one room. Even if one is a baby who sleeps in a playpen! We were not about to pay for 2 rooms. So off we went to the Sheraton instead! We should have gone there the first night... we felt like Royalty. Very "shi shi poo poo" as Lynn lynn would say. I love hotel life.

Poor Maelie ended up having fever and a bad cough the whole time we were away. I felt horrible for her. She was so patient and for a little girl who probably had over 100 degree fever, she was so wonderful.

We apple picked, swam in the hotel pool and went to Boston Pizza for supper on the last night. This little girl was pooped!!

Back to reality tomorrow... hopefully my little Maelie will be all better soon....

Music to my ears

Today Maelie and I headed off to the Family Music fair at the University of Ottawa. I guess they are trying to attract young kids to play classical music. It was quite interesting for Maelie to try various intruments. She definitely has a lot of air coming out of her lungs. I think it the Oboe (hautbois in french... who knew!) that kids had a hard time getting to sound like something, but she got a BIG sound out of that one! She actually surprised the people around her. She was especially proud of herself because the child before her, who was about 9 years old or so, was not able to get a peep out of that thing!I didn't get a picture because i think at that point, my camera lens must have shattered! :)

She really enjoyed the violin as well. A few of the windows in the building cracked... but I am sure all is ok now. :)

There was entertainment such as shows (bagpipes, japanese drumming, junkyard music, etc...), facepainting, entertainers on stilts, and even gelati... :) who could resist.

We had a great time. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday morning.

Making herself a beauty

Maelie is enjoying being a mature grown up girl. She insists on doing her hair herself.

Comments from school

This is what the teacher wrote in Maelie's communication booklet:

"Maelie is a delight. She is very involved in all activities and follows directions/routines very well. Theodore does seem to be her favorite friend (a really nice little boy) right now, but she does play with other children"

Awwww, let's hope all notes this year are like this one! :)

I am glad the teacher likes her. Then again, how could she not? :)

I'm sorry about the lack of pictures! The lack of time comes into play these days with school and all!

I may have a hard time way before teenage years

"Mom, why won't they let us kiss at school?"

"um, were you trying to kiss someone?"

"yes, Theodore. but the lady said we can't kiss at school. Why is that?"

"uh... well...."

What a day!

Saturday we spent at the Hot Air Balloon Festival. We had never actually been on site, but Jacinthe had been many times so she knew all about where to go and what to see. So we joined her and the kids, packed our lunches and spent the day there until past midnight! I am paying for it today but it was well worth it. Last year, we had checked the hot air balloons from afar but the weather was never cooperating. Yesterday, the weather was absolutely perfect (for all of us as you can see below!)

The kids did a gazillion rides fed the animals at the petting farm Had some cotton candy watched the balloons blow up getting ready to take off and just about a gazillion other things. Maelie has decided that she should be a breakdancer.

We stayed there until the fireworks, which is always awesome. The show before the fireworks was Eva Avila, winner of Canadian Idol. We didn't stay put for the show though, we were too busy!

We had a great time. It's taking us all weekend to get over it though and gain our energy back! It's worth it though.
