Christmas cards 2012

Well, I am almost ready to send out the Christmas cards I made this year! I am not claiming these to be MY ideas. I searched on Pinterest and various blogs and found ideas from there. I just don't always remember where I found the idea!!

Of course most of them are better looking in person. You don't see dimensions or embossing as well on pictures.

I guess once you receive a card, you will see how it looks in person! :)

Speech , feet and cookies!

Wednesday morning, Maelie did her speech in front of the school and some parents. She was confident, well spoken and expressive! I could not help but be extremely proud of her!!

I took a few pictures and every single picture had a very different facial expression! She placed as "honourable mention" which would make her 4th. She was not too happy with that and is now determined to work even harder to get in the top 3! I was extremely proud that she spoke so well !

Maelie had a podiatrist visit this past week and since they had casted her feet to make orthotics, she was able to keep the plaster feet!! She was excited to decorate them. We let them dry by the window for a few days and last night she decided to paint them.

Of course she had to make them quite colorful!

Ta-da! She decided she will give these feet to her mannequin who sadly doesn't have feet of her own!

We also managed to bake a batch of cookies today. Maelie wanted chocolate chip cookies. Unfortunately these are really bad!! LOL Very addictive so once you have ONE , you want them all. It's actually the recipe behind the Chipits 1 KG bag. I made them before with 3 types of chocolate: white, milk and semi-sweet, but today we stuck with the semi-sweet.

Advent Calendar 2013

Today I set up Maelie's advent calendar 2013. It's a Christmas tree forest!!

I added strings of snow all around the trees. The forest is set up on top of our tv cabinet. It adds to the decor!

Inside each tree is a surprise or a number associated to a basket of wrapped surprises (when they didn't fit inside the tree). For every day until Christmas, Maelie gets to open up a tree and get a surprise!

She saw this as soon as she woke up this morning and she was SO excited! Now she can't wait for next week - December 1st!!

I have been working on my Christmas cards and pretty much just have to mail them. I will post some pictures of my favorites soon! I've just been under the weather this past week but I am slowly returning to my old self again. There will be daily posting in December for the Countdown to Christmas :)

A lot of Progress!

Last week Maelie had an MRI. I am not gonna post an MRI on here! Today we went to see the orthopedist to hear what he had to say. He said that other than a lot of swelling inside her foot, they didn't see anything. So there is progress... lots of it. Maelie is making HUGE efforts! She is walking, with a bandage and sometimes a crutch or two, especially end of day.

Here is a copy of her first xray. You can see the little chip if you look on the left side , middle of the foot. I guess that's part of her growth plate not attaching properly.

Below is the xray today where you can see how it seems to be attaching pretty good (to a very untrained eye of course)!

The podiatrist we've been seeing says it is ostochondrosis of the fifth metatarsal (Iselin's disease). Basically an issue with the growth plate forming and attaching properly. If we had not started seeing the podiatrist to get help, Maelie would still be in more pain that she is today, as wearing the cast was not helping this heal ! So this is awesome news! Maelie will not be playing sports right away, but time will heal all wounds...!!

Holiday Season has officially started!!

50 days left 'til Christmas!!!

Sometimes I am a procrastinator... but when it comes to holidays/special occasions, I don't like to procrastinate so much. We bought a new tree on Saturday afternoon, set it up, and then on Sunday we decorated it! Maelie was looking forward to that all weekend!!

The star actually touches the ceiling! The ceiling helps the star stay up... so I better not move the tree at all! I used to have an angel at the top of the tree watching over us, but Maelie hated it with a passion! She thought we NEEDED a star.

Here it is with all the fixings. We also have the Little People Christmas sets underneath the tree. Even if Maelie is 10, we still need to have the sets under the tree. It's tradition!!

It was really nice to hear Christmas songs in the stores. It is truly my favorite season of the year!! I like to make it drag on for a couple months so then it is not as stressful as if I tried to cram everything in the last week!! This upcoming week and weekend will be Christmas card time. I found plenty of good ideas online, so I will be starting that soon!!

Coming soon... to a living room near you

Oh Christmas tree....

Stay tuned for the final product!

Mannequin

Maelie has been wanting a mannequin (or body form) for years! We've seen some at Homesense but they are usually close to 180$. So when we were out and about looking for a new Christmas tree, we thought we would check out Zellers since they are closing in the new year. We didn't get a good deal on a tree, but we DID find this chick!!

Maelie was so excited when we saw her at the store... !! This is actually a part of her Christmas present in advance.... we just couldn't pass up the opportunity!! Once we got home, she quickly got to work dressing her. Thankfully the arms come off so it's easier to get her clothes on!

She added a bit of jewelry and enjoyed herself for hours!!

Much better!

Time to relax together and watch a bit of tv :)

Happy Halloween!!

I still can't believe Halloween is over, that everything will be switched over to Christmas now!

Since Maelie is not a candy lover, we like getting her a little gift that will make her happy. Someone at work mentioned Zombie poetry one day... and so I ordered it online. She loved it!!

For easy transportation, I got some small cookie sheets at the dollar store, so she can play with it anywhere.

We had a lot of trick or treaters, and our last ones were at 8 pm when we turned the lights off. Being in a cast Maelie couldn't go out and about, but she still wanted to get dressed up... We stayed home and she sat at the door giving the candy! Every time she would shut the door, she would comment on how cute the little ones were!

Naomie and Sonia dropped by to help give out the candy so the girls ended up walking over (Maelie on crutches) to our 4 immediate neighbors to trick or treat. Maelie made it safely back home with no more injuries. LOL Here are the girls with sucker eyes!

It was a nice evening and we did get to bed at a reasonable hour! I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween!!
