Wonder-full day!

What a wonderful day we had on Saturday. and when I say wonderful, i also mean FULL. Our day was packed with fun!

We started off the day going to the Museum of Nature which has free admission on Saturday morning. We went with Jacinthe, Koryne and Raphael. The kids get along so incredibly well that you wouldn't even know you have 3 kids in tow.

We went specifically to check out the dinosaurs as it is currently Raphael's passion.

Afterwards we headed off to a park to have a pic nic. It was GORGEOUS outside!

The kids played at the park for a while.

They ran around and expended a whole lot of energy!

Once we were done with that, they happily hopped in the car to go shopping at a few stores. We went to Michael's and Bulk Barn, PetSmart and Party Packagers. Stocked up on a few items for Maelie's Halloween party, and then headed off home.

Once we got home, we just had time to unpack, change clothes and head off for supper at my uncles house. Pierre and Isabela served us dinner on their "raclette". I found that amazing. As popular as it is, I had never tried it. Maelie even baked cookies with Pierre as I toured their new house. We are a very chatty family so there were no dull moments in the conversation. Maelie fell asleep on their couch at about 8:45 and we chit-chatted until about 10:45 after which I packed Maelie in the car and drove home. I am usually in bed by 8 at the latest so this was pretty late for me!

We had a wonderful busy day.

Maelie was up at 6:45 this morning and has already asked what we are doing today! This girl is unstoppable!

Friend or foe?

Hmmm... who is this little creature at my door?

Let me get a closer look.

WHOA!

Let me move back here. No need for you to try and mess up my hair!

Sick day

Maelie ended up sick with a bad cough this weekend. She was wheezing pretty bad yesterday and had a bit of fever. I insisted she sleep right beside me so I could listen to her breathe all night. Which I did. So Mama was pretty tired this morning!

Maelie ended up staying home from school. She was pretty beat earlier on, but her spirits came back soon enough and she talked my ears off all day!

She always has good spirits to hang out with her Bebe Lapin!

By the end of the day though... both the rabbit and I were worn out! We will gladly go back to our routine tomorrow :)

My first canning experience

As you can tell, kids aren't the only ones who have firsts! Today was the first time I ever canned in my life! Of course I would not have done it without my canning leader Jacinthe. Canning is quite her business. However, today was her first time canning beets.

I followed her instuctions quite well I think!

We had to multi-task considering we had 5 kids in the house to take care of at the same time! They were pretty self-sufficient though, so that was good.

Look at these :

and look at the outcome of all our hard work!

I only like pickled beets a little, however there is a certain man in the house that will go through the jars quite well on his own!

Maelie's new found collection

Maelie came home one day liking these pens.

Say hello to the Kookys. They are funny looking pens that you can hook up to anything. They all have a name written at the back of the pen. Apparently there are hundreds and hundreds of different Kookys... but we will settle for 4!

The start of a weekend

This morning Maelie was trying to get me out of bed, but it was one of those mornings where mind & body don't cooperate! I managed to get an extra half hour. The thing that is different with Maelie than most kids is that she won't come downstairs and enjoy the freedom from parents. She is a bit scared of being left alone on a different floor of the house. So she stayed in bed and tortured me until I got up.

For breakfast, I decided I wanted toast dipped in a hot chocolate, but we had no more hot chocolate! So off we went in our jammies and our uncombed hair to Tim Horton's. Maelie needed one with whipped cream on it. What a nice way to start a lazy Saturday!

We have lots of hopes for today. Mainly filled with a few errands (getting hay for the pets, visiting Chapters for a Halloween book which I will blog about if it's worth it, and a little visit to the Bulk Barn as I have a 3$ coupon). It's a sunny day, chilly, but nice. Maelie is coughing up a lung so I assume she will need a nap later on today. So we will see where are day takes us.

and so it begins....

The festivities have officially begun! In this household, starting in October, we get pretty excited (well ok, Bill not so much).

I love the fall. It starts off a long 7 months of festivities. Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's and Easter. Then we take a break for 5 months and it starts all over again.

October 1st is my limit for Halloween decorations... so I am actually a day late! Our first decoration this year is a skeleton in the window!

Maelie wanted to pose as she was dancing with him...

followed by a nice good-night kiss!

The orange pumpkin curtains are going up as well, and more window decorations. We need more leaves to make pumpkin bags though! Stay tuned...
