Summer vacation - Day 2

Maelie went to a birthday party today. The twins from her grade turned 11. She had a good time.

Before she left, she asked me to do something with her hair. Now to those who know Maelie, you know she is NOT a child who enjoys having her hair played with. Just brushing her hair is torturous. So I always debate... should I touch her hair or not ? (when she asks me).

I took a chance and did a braid that went across the top of her head!

Had to fix a couple of bumps...

Maelie liked it! and not too much complaining happening in the making of this hair do!

Summer vacation - Day 1

So it's officially summer, and school is out! Hurray!! I decided to challenge myself to one post a day for summer vacation ! :) Of course I have to remember to take pictures every day :)
Remember my little empty plot of land? I wasn't sure if anything was going to survive, but it looks like it is surviving and some of them are thriving! We already have had some lettuce since it is just overflowing. The tomato plants are folling up... I just hope that we don't have bugs stealing anything.

To celebrate the first day off of school, Maelie and I went to see Monsters University. It was the prequel to Monsters Inc. Very cute and entertaining. I had free admission via airmiles vouchers so it wasn't too pricey!!

After the movie, we stopped by Old Navy as it was next door. Maelie got 2 tanks tops and she was drooling over some cute dresses. She LOVES clothes and has way too much in her closet already.

Another birthday!

Apparently, June is the party month out here!! We went out for a birthday supper for Sonia on Tuesday at Medzes (AWESOME Greek fusion, grill and pasta restaurant). It is definitely worth going there. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are pretty big... enough to take home!

We had a nice time, and then went straight home to bed!! School is almost out!!

Saturday we had our yard sale. It went quite well, though we had a few rude people drop by , trying to bargain a bit too much. I am glad I stuck to my guns! :) Maelie also did a great job. As she collected money for her toys and stuff, she could picture herself shopping at Aeropostale... buying everything in the store! That kid seriously has more clothes than I had in ALL my school years!

Saturday evening, we surprised Myriam by going to her synchronized swimming show. She didn't think we would go because it was in the evening and she knows we are in bed early. It was awesome to see her face light up and when she saw us up in the stands!

It's adorable to see all the girls in their fancy suits!

Her group did a great job! I could see the major improvement from the last show.



There were so many talented girls! The advanced teams were seriously amazing... had perfect timing! We enjoyed ourselves even if we were EXHAUSTED from the yard sale! :)

another bday !

On Wednesday, it was Elena's birthday. Elena is Sonia's student who is staying with them until July. She just turned 16 and is such a sweet girl. We thought she should work for her bday gift so we packaged it in a balloon! 

You can;t give someone who is leaving in less than a month with a TON of suitcases something big so we gave her a gift card for the movies since we know she will go!

We ate at Lyna le Sushi. Maelie ate what you can see below... I don't remember the name of it exactly. I think it was cucumber flavored.

I had a veggie spring roll, and only remembered to take a pic when I was half way through. It was very tasty!!

We had a wonderful time! June is so full of celebrations!!

Happy Father's Day to Bill and to my dad Jim!

This is Maelie and her daddy before Father's Day Brunch. 

They were both saying "take the picture already!!" LOL I just wanted to make sure I ahad a good one so I clicked away. Maelie is very blessed to have Bill as a dad. He will always make sure she is ok and will drop everything to run to her rescue. You can tell they have so much love for each other.

Happy Father's Day to my awesome dad :) I am glad that he is a part of my life and that Maelie has a wonderful grandpapa.

Another year older!

One more birthday passed recently! It started the week before my bday. My mom came for a visit. She and Maelie picked up an ice cream cake ... and for bdays, you can have ice cream cake for breakfast ! Hurray! I had candles that I hadn't used last year, so I decided to use them... even if they reflect last year's bday! LOL I am now 38... but when I blew out the candles, I was still 37.

On Monday, my actual bday, Sonia and her family took us out for supper.

Another year older! I don't mind birthdays, because the alternative to birthdays is not being alive to have one! :)

I brought cupcakes to my work for my colleagues to enjoy, and i was spoiled with bday wishes and love!! and gifts too. The most important to me though is just being with my family and friends. Nothing can beat that as a present!! They love me and accept me for who i am!!
